Average cost for petrol and diesel:
Back in January, experts were predicting that oil prices would fall in 2025 as growth in production and reduced demand conspire to depress the cost. Our March figures are the first signs this might be happening.
However, as we go to press with March data, the US president announced adding tariffs to the goods of almost all countries around the world.
Previous assumptions then, based on well-founded analysis and global trading systems, need to be put on hold for the time being, until the full effects of these actions are seen.
As with petrol, diesel saw its first fall in price of the Winter in March. It’s still 4p per litre higher than in November on average, but heading back in the right direction.
As with petrol, the fallout of a potential global trade war on the price of diesel is hard to predict. But usually demand for diesel drops as the Northern Hemisphere weather warms up, so that may help to keep prices falling, no matter what.
