Average cost for home and public charging

As we noted in the Executive Summary, although the average of 24p remains, it does look as though tariffs for home charging are softening across the board. If the trend continues, it could be the case that by the end of the 2025, average home charging could be around 3p per kWh lower than the OFGEM price cap figure, which will be over 26p by then.

In Q3 2025, the average cost of public charging dropped by 2p per kWh, which is great news, but still huge disparities remain between the cheapest and the most expensive for both slower AC and faster DC charge points. Generally, drivers expect to pay more for fast chargers, and while the averages for DC at 66p and AC at 49p corroborate that theory, the extremes of both were about the same at around 25p and £1 per kWh. So the recommendation here is to shop around.
